J-Bay: Round One
Waves for the first day of a World Tour event… that never happens. So good to see big sets stacked up when I got out of bed this morning. I didn’t surf until heat 10 which meant hanging about all day watching everyone rip in but it got me psyched. The standout performances today in my opinion came from Andy Irons, Bobby Martinez, Owen Wright, Jordy Smith and Kelly Slater. I was pretty happy with how I surfed, the waves were a little slower in my heat so I went a couple of medium sized runners in the beginning and then lucked into a bigger set. I was relieved to get the win over Sean Holmes. The local wild man went mental out there last year but I managed to edge ahead in round one. Forecast is still looking reasonable for tomorrow. Word is they’re gonna knock round two on the melon and possibly bang out a few Round three heats. Gonna be good.
