Mick Goes Green for Enviroweek
Mick Fanning today pledged his support to Enviroweek just moments after taking the ratings lead from his mate Joel Parkinson with a win in the second round of the Billabong Pro Mundaka. Mick announced that he has taken up a role as an ambassador for Enviroweek in Australia this year and hopes to help improve environmental awareness, encourage behavior change and raise funds for environmental charities. Enviroweek kicked off on October 11th and runs through to the 17th. Mick will be competing at the Billabong Pro Mundaka in Spain during Enviroweek but will show his support by sporting a green wetsuit at the event.
Mick’s major sponsor Rip Curl coordinates a host of eco-friendly initiatives under the slogan, Rip Curl Planet, so when Mick asked them about getting a custom made green wetsuit for the ocassion they were only to happy to get involved.
“When I joined forces with Enviroweek I spoke with Rip Curl about making me a green suit to wear at the Mundaka event to help get the Enviroweek message out there. They’d been developing a new Rip Curl eco-friendly suit anyway, so it all worked out beautifully.” Says Mick. “Unfortunately it was too hot today to wear the full-length steamer, probably a result of global warming, so I haven’t worn the wetsuit in competition yet.”
Mick will auction the one of a kind eco-friendly Rip Curl wetsuit on eBay after the Billabong Pro Mundaka event to try and raise money for the environmental charity of his choice. In the meantime you can make a donation to Mick’s Enviroweek mission here, those that contribute will be in the running to win a surfboard signed by Mick Fanning.
