Still Advancing In France

Mick is still moving through the rounds of the Quiksilver Pro France after winning his round 3 heat against wildcard Julian Wilson yesterday afternoon. “I was a little nervous heading into that one” Said Mick post heat. “Julian is one of my top five favourite surfers in the world right now and after traveling with him on a Red Bull trip to the Mentawai Islands earlier this year we’ve become pretty good mates.”

It was an important win for Mick who has the opportunity to make up more ground on Joel Parkinson who suffered a shock elimination n the third round at the hands of local trialist Patrick Bevan.”No doubt there’s an opportunity to reduce Parko’s lead,” Said Mick after Parko was beaten, before adding: “But I didn’t let his poor result get in my head. I’ve got to keep my focus and continue to get big results myself. I can’t rely on Parko to make more early round exits, I know better than anyone how good he surfs.”

After a shaky start in France, that Mick attributed to  the quick turn around from a big final day at Trestles, the 2007 World Champ seemed to be back on track with a solid round three performance. With bugger all swell predicted during the rest of the event window there’s a chance the Quiksilver Pro could be finished today. The Round 4 match ups are looking good, Mick will battle Jordy Smith in heat 7 for a spot in the quarter finals. You can check it out live on the Quiksilver Pro event site.
