Bobby Wins In Tahiti

On May 19 my good mate Bobby Martinez took out the Billabong Pro Tahiti, defeating Taj Burrow in the final. Bobby’s one of the best guys out there and its the second time he’s won the event. Don’t know why I didn’t list him as a Dangermen in the Tour section of the site… I was tripping! Anyway, I got knocked in the third round by Tom Whitaker. It was a shocking heat for waves so I’m not being to hard on myself but I did miss an opportunity to narrow Joel Parkinson’s lead on the ratings. Taj’s runner-up finish in the event has moved him into second place and pushed me back to third.
I’m not happy about it but I am I’m excited about Brazil being moved to stop number four on the schedule instead of being the second last event. I really love the event in Brazil, I’ve had two wins there and it is where I wrapped up the World Title in 2007. This year is shaping up to be an exciting one but right now we’ve got a month long break so I’m jumping on a boat with the Red Bull crew. I’ll be sending Twitter updates when possible so stay tuned to the site. Thanks for all the well wishes in Tahiti, it means a lot. – MF
