Teahupoo Quiver

People keep asking me about the sticks I’m going to be riding at Teahupoo so I thought I’d give you a little insight into my equipment. My quiver for Tahiti is made up of about 8 boards ranging from 6’1” to 6’10”. They’re all pretty much Tokoro’s [Wade Tokoro] and they’re similar boards to those I’d ride at Pipe and Backdoor. If the surf is tiny I’ll stick with something similar to the all-rounders I rode during the Aussie leg although I’ll probably go for an extra inch or two in length. I also usually go for a rounded pin-tail instead of a rounded square at Teahupoo so I get a little more hold and control in the tube. Generally the curve and shape of my bigger boards doesn’t stray too far from my all-round shortboard template, it’s just the length and tail shape change up. Hope that gives you an idea of what I’ll be working with. Stay tuned to the Billabong Pro site to catch my heats. Thanks for all the messages of support!

  2. Hope that you rip it up at Chopes Mick and we get to see an MF v JP final.

Why do you ride Tokoros at Chopes and Hawaii instead of DHD’s?

  6. I know it might sound obvious but with the speed and power that Teahupoo carries, surely you simply need a board board set up you can completely rely on. As the wave at it’s best will create the best conditions for a powerful first turn to set up for a full on barrel. So your quiver for Tahiti sounds ideal. Hope things go well for you Mick be so good to see you in the final.

  7. The reason I ride tokoros instead of DHD’s in these waves is because they feel a bit better. Wade Tokoro spends his life shaping boards for these waves and DH is still learning. Plus we don’t get waves like this at home to try them enough. I am lucky because I can choose between the two of them. Two amazing shapers making me heaps of magic boards.
