Monster Snapper Pits

Wow! A couple of mates and I scored the most ridiculous session behind the rock at Snapper yesterday morning. There was plenty of size in the surf but usually the direction of the swell would have been too south for everywhere. In the morning Dean “Hazza” Harrington rang me up and told me there was the odd one behind the rock at Snapper so I jumped straight in the car to check it out. It took me about two seconds to make my mind up when I saw it, we we’re hitting it. So we grabbed a Red Bull ski and towed each other into some of the best barrels I have ever had on the Gold Coast. We shared it with Dingo Morrison and Dean Hazza’s twin brother Shaun. My photographer buddy Simon Williams rocked up and took some photos and was good enough to share some of the gold he captured with you here on the site. The four of us got barreled off our heads for four hours. The swell died pretty quick in the end but the first few hours was just laughing at each other inside these big throaty pits. Great first day back at home after Bells and to share it with my best mates was all time. That’s what surfing is all about! I’ll put a selection of the best images in the image Gallery later today. Stay tuned! MF

Thanks to the sweep only four guys shared this session so Mick got plenty of memorable rides. Image © Simon Williams

  1. Hey Mick,

Just got back into surfing after many years playing AFL and being a mad dirt bike rider. Recently moved my family up to the coast as I got transfered with work and got the vibe back to surf. Mate only dream about having the confidence to barrel like that.

Love your website, and if my kids take up surfing, your a fantastic role model for them to follow.

Oh yeah, you will probably be stoked to hear this mate. On saturday I went to a party and my wife brought me a pair of your reef walkers.
Man did I put them to the test opening everyones screw top stubbies.

At one stage I had just one on my foot, so in demand was it to open everyones drinks.

    Regards,
    Mark Low & Family
